The Witch Has Decorated Her Tree. She Has a Martini. The Cat Approves. The Forest Is Fine With All of This. The Star Is Red Because She Wanted It That Way.

In a winter forest of bare grey trees dissolving into pale fog, a Christmas tree stands tall and dark and properly decorated, its red star catching the only warm light in the scene. Beside it, a witch of extraordinary height and gothic elegance holds a martini glass with the calm of someone who has been doing the holidays her way for several centuries and has no intention of changing. Her hat is wide and black and magnificent. Her dress is long and black and trails across the snow. Her silhouette is the silhouette of someone who takes up exactly the right amount of space and not one inch less. At her feet, a black cat sits and looks up at her with the specific approval of an animal that has chosen its person carefully and continues to find that choice correct. The ground is lined with deep red winter berries — the red of something that knows it belongs in this palette and has staked its claim accordingly. The fog softens everything. The star glows. The martini is probably not eggnog. The witch and the cat and the tree and the red berries and the pale forest make a complete composition: alternative Christmas, done with full atmospheric commitment and a drink in hand.

Why You'll Love It

• The finest dark Christmas and gothic witchcore holiday canvas available — tall elegant witch, martini glass, black cat, red-starred Christmas tree, winter berry ground, pale fog forest — every element is correct; the palette of black, deep green, red berry, and pale fog is the palette of an alternative Christmas done with complete aesthetic authority; this is not Halloween extended into December; this is a complete vision of how the holidays look when you do them right
• Gothic dark fantasy illustration at its most atmospherically rich — bare winter trees in fog, witch silhouette with extraordinary proportions, black cat, warm red accents against cool grey-green atmosphere — the fog-dissolved forest gives the painting depth; the warm red berries and red star give it warmth; the witch and cat give it character; the martini gives it exactly the right note of wit to keep the gothic from becoming grim
• The witchcore, dark academia, gothic, and alternative holiday interior’s essential Christmas canvas — horizontal format, rich atmospheric depth, the specific color story of black and deep green and red and pale fog; this painting works in any dark or moody interior at any time of year and becomes the definitive seasonal statement in December for anyone whose Christmas has always been a little more interesting than the standard version
• The black cat owner’s most complete holiday canvas — witch, cat, tree, martini, forest, red star, done — the black cat sitting at the witch’s feet in the snow is the specific image that black cat owners and witch-identifying humans have been waiting for someone to paint at this level of gothic atmospheric quality; it exists now; it is here

"The tree had been decorated before the fog arrived. The star had always been red. The martini was the witch’s own recipe and she was not sharing it. The cat had been consulted on the overall aesthetic and had approved. The forest had no opinion but was contributing atmosphere, which was enough. This was Christmas. It had always been Christmas. Just not everyone’s."
