He Didn’t Need a Runway. He Had a Bicycle and a Very Good Idea.

An old man in a rust-red coat and a wide-brimmed hat pedals steadily through a golden sky. Above him, a patchwork parachute — stitched together from squares of teal, green, blue, purple, and yellow, the kind of thing made from whatever was available and held together by determination — keeps him aloft with complete confidence. Around him, colorful paper birds and folded shapes drift through the warm amber air, going wherever they please. The sky is the color of late afternoon. The man is going somewhere specific. Rendered in a warm, luminous watercolor and mixed-media style with soft washes, fine linework, and a palette of golden amber, sage green, teal, and terracotta, this piece is joyful, poetic, and completely impossible not to smile at.
